Description
The Skagit Valley Chorale is a group of musicians who love to sing. Since its inception in 1984, the Chorale has grown from 30 members to as many as 130 singers and is currently under the direction of Dr. Yvette Adam Burdick.
Chorale concerts offer a wide variety of repertoire ranging from early music to modern popular styles and drawing from traditions around the world. Audiences have enjoyed the Chorale’s polished and emotionally rich performances featuring powerful texts and varied musical styles presented with commentary on musical and historical context by Dr. Burdick. The Chorale enjoys collaborating with local musicians of all ages and varieties, recently sharing the stage with a children’s choir, orchestra, wind band, big band, chamber ensembles, folk instruments, duo pianists, and a brass and percussion ensemble!
The Chorale experienced a widely publicized cluster outbreak of COVID in March 2020 in the earliest stages of the pandemic. By sharing details of that experience with scientists and the media the Chorale helped support crucial study that revealed how the virus is communicated through aerosols and became an inspiration in creative resilience and carefully crafted COVID protocols for choirs and other music ensembles locally and around the world. Our members have tenaciously continued to sing together, whether over Zoom, out in the cold, or in our rehearsal space with the doors wide open – masked, vaccinated, distanced, and bundled up! We are so pleased to once again experience the resonance that only happens when we sing together in person, grateful to be back singing at beautiful McIntyre Hall, and happy to welcome our audience back to hear and share in our musical community.
