Description

David Lang's "the little match girl passion" (2008) has been described as "breathtakingly spare and icily gorgeous," and is a surprisingly lush retelling of the Hans Christian Anderson tale in spite of its minimalist construction. The program also features the opening movement from Ildrebrando Pizzetti's Messa di Requiem (1922-23) and Jake Runestad's beautiful And So I Go On (2014); all works that seek to transform grief into a tribute to love.
