The South Sound Classical Choir is made up of about 50 community members from Puyallup, Tacoma and surrounding South Puget Sound areas who love to sing a diverse musical repertoire that includes classical music from Renaissance to modern periods. We were honored with an invitation to participate in a performance of Ola Gjeilo's compositions at Carnegie Hall on April 15, 2018!
Weekly rehearsals for our Spring concert season begin the second Monday of January at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma from 7 to 9 pm. We take the summers off and begin our Fall season on the Monday after Labor Day. We typically sing four concerts in early December and four in early May.
Dues are $17/month, but new members and past members returning from "sabbatical" get the first month free. Scholarships are available for members in financial difficulty. Auditions are not required, except for those requesting to sing solos during our performances. For information on joining, contact choir director Dr. David LaBerge or come to a choir practice and you will be welcomed.
Director, Dr. David LaBerge organized the Bach Society of Minnesota with Charles Stroebel and was Music Director for 21 years of annual Bach Festivals and concerts by other composers. He prepared choruses for concerts by the Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and by guest conductors Robert Shaw, Neville Marriner, Raymond Leppard, Leonard Slatkin, and Henry Charles Smith. “Having conducted over 100 concerts with choirs of auditioned singers, I was surprised and pleased to find that this group of un-auditioned singers produces such a high level of tone quality, musical vitality and musical phrasing. They routinely inspire audiences to give standing ovations.”
