Description
The Seattle Metropolitan Singers “The Met” is an adult choir that performs choral music within the soprano and alto ranges. We invite members from across the gender spectrum and from the novice to the experienced to join us. The season runs from September through early June. We perform some small concerts, with two large performances in December and June.
The Seattle Metropolitan Singers is under the artistic direction of Laurie de Leonne. Laurie, formerly Laurie Betts Hughes, comes with a wealth of experience. Her mission has been to form and organize choirs and bring them to performance level, in the belief that music and singing make the world a better place. She is Founding Artistic Director of two choruses, the Redmond Chorale and the Eastside Midday Singers. Under the aegis of Play at Work, Laurie helped bring the benefits of music to workplaces as Director of the G# Choir of Googlers. She was also Choir Director for the Women's University Club.
The Met is pleased to have Natha Shiu as our collaborative pianist, Nathan Shiu. Nathan is a local pianist, singer, and music educator (specializing in teaching voice) based in Bellevue and serving the Greater Seattle Area.
The Met is one of two choirs under the Seattle Glee Clubs umbrella. Established as a non-profit 501(c) organization in 2001, Seattle Glee Clubs is committed to creating a welcoming environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. We recognize this is an evolving process. It requires intention and attention to member recruitment, musical selections, and audience outreach.
