Description
A Cappella Joy (AJoy) is an award-winning barbershop chorus based in the Seattle area. We belong to Sweet Adelines International, the largest music education organization for women and people of marginalized genders in the world. Our 60-plus members are dedicated to musical excellence, committed to inclusiveness and diversity, and determined to bring a fresh, fun approach to a traditional American art form.
Our auditions are open to women and people of marginalized genders, regardless of age, race, religion, nationality, ethnicity, gender expression, or transgender or other LGBTQIA status.
A Cappella Joy won first place in the Sweet Adelines Region 13 choral competition in 2018, securing a spot in the 2019 international competition in New Orleans. The chorus placed 16th internationally in this competition.
The musical director of A Cappella Joy, Nikki Blackmer, also sings lead with Queens of Harmony Frenzy Quartet, the 2017 Sweet Adelines International quartet champions. Judy Poszgay, bass with Frenzy, is A Cappella Joy's artistic director.
In 2024, AJoy competed in the Sweet Adelines International Harmony Classic Competition and placed 1st!
