The Seattle Sings Choral Festival is going virtual this fall!

Marvel at the talent, variety, and creativity of Puget Sound choirs. Enjoy rich interviews with leaders in the local choral community, including KING FM CEO Brenda Barnes and beloved composer Morten Lauridsen. And it all begins Saturday, October 2, with the Seattle Sings Online Showcase!

41 dynamic choirs have submitted videos for this fifth biennial festival, sponsored by the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium. The festival unfolds over three weeks in three different collections, each premiering via our media channels with access at www.seattlesings.org at 2:00 PM PT on October 2, 9, and 16. Each collection will run for a week, and features interviews and performances by choirs of all types, styles, and local regions: men’s, women’s, and youth choirs as well as mixed-voice; a Japanese, an eastern European, and a Finnish choir; medieval to barbershop, jazz and show choir to classical, choirs from Seattle, the Eastside, Bainbridge Island, Everett, Kent, and beyond—as Brenda Barnes says in one of the interviews, we have “an embarrassment of riches” when it come to choral music in western Washington.

The festival is also thrilled to collaborate with Northwest composer and University of Washington choral professor Dr. Giselle Wyers. In what has become a festival tradition, the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium commissions a work especially for the festival, and this year the honor goes to Dr. Wyers. “Join in Gathering” is Dr. Wyers’ contribution as Composer in Residence of the festival, and in keeping with this tradition, those watching the showcases will have a chance to sing along with a portion of this lovely piece.

Each showcase is free—come and go as you please, and you can always pick up later in the week from where you left off.

The GSCC is a non-profit service organization that provides advocacy, support, resource sharing, and outreach to more than 90 choirs throughout the Puget Sound region. In keeping with our mission and vision, the GSCC is proud to gather together 41 of our member choirs in a three-day event of free public performances.
