Press Release
The Greater Seattle Choral Consortium’s fourth biennial Seattle Sings Choral Festival kicks off on Thursday and Friday evenings October 10, 11 and all day and evening Saturday October 12 at Seattle First Baptist Church.
The church’s beautiful space and reverberant acoustic will showcase 35 dynamic choirs of all types and styles from around the Puget Sound region: medieval to barbershop, jazz to classical, men’s and women’s and SATB choirs, heritage choirs and more.
Friday evening will honor Northwest composer Morten Lauridsen for his many years of service to choral music, and will feature six choirs presenting a retrospective of his works. Lauridsen himself will be in attendance and to cap the evening will lead the audience and choirs in one of his most beloved works, “Sure On This Shining Night.” Another Northwest composer, Ethan Sperry, has been commissioned by the GSCC to compose the festival anthem, which will be sung by choir and audience periodically throughout the festival.
Admission is free; come and go as you please.
