Press Release

July 1, 2017

SEATTLE- The Greater Seattle Choral Consortium is proud to announce our third biennial Seattle Sings Choral Festival to be held on October 12, 13 and 14, 2017 at Seattle First Baptist Church. The GSCC is a non-profit service organization which provides advocacy, support, resource sharing, and outreach to more than 70 choirs throughout the Puget Sound region. In keeping with our mission and vision, the Consortium is proud to gather together 35 of our member choirs in a three-day event of public performances.

The first of the 35 choirs will begin performing on Thursday night at 7:00pm, with opening ceremonies including a candle lighting. Our Friday night performances begin again at 7:00pm, and our Saturday performances begin at 10:00am, finish at 9:00pm, and conclude with closing remarks by GSCC President Laurie Betts Hughes.

We are pleased to welcome Joan Szymko as the Composer in Residence for the 2017 Seattle Sings Festival. Ms. Szymko has composed a new work entitled “The Gift of Song” to be performed by the participating choirs (with one verse for the audience!) at the conclusion of Thursday and Friday’s festival performances, at intervals throughout the day on Saturday, and finally at the closing ceremonies. This is the first time in the festival’s history that we’ve commissioned a new work specifically for our participating choirs.

We invite the public to attend part or all of the festival, to come and go as you please, and to simply enjoy the wide range of choral music you will be able to experience. There is NO COST for admission to the festival! For more information and a complete listing of participating choirs, please visit us on the web at www.SeattleSings.org (look for the “Festival” tab at the top), or you can email us at gsccfestival@seattlesings.org.
