Transient Glory
Description
Note: (This concert has been rescheduled from January 28 to February 18) .Drawing from the phrase sic transit gloria mundi (thus passes the glory of the world) Transient Glory explores some of the ways we encounter, experience, and call on beauty and magnificence. In a concert that embraces almost entirely living composers, Ancora sings texts from Gerard Manley Hopkins, Garcia Lorca, and Wendell Berry, as well as works from Sheila Bristow, Stephen Smith, Frank Ticheli, and Christine Donkin. Interleaved into this “new” music is the startling text from the Tenebrae Responses of Thomás Luis de Victoria, “O vos omnes” (O ye people), taken from the first chapter of Jeremiah. We are proud to also offer a world premiere of “All my Songs for You,” on a text by Sarah Teasdale, written for Ancora and Artistic Director J. Scott Kovacs by celebrated Seattle composer Donald M. Skirvin.
