Description
America: What Is Our Common Ground?
Opus 7’s 32nd-Anniversary Season opens with a varied collection of choral music examining and celebrating America through past and present themes. The concert will begin with humorous settings of quotes from presidents Lincoln, Coolidge, Roosevelt, and others; thought-provoking works about external and internal threats to democracy—including Advance Democracy by Benjamin Britten; and “Welcome Song” from Borders by John Muehleisen. The second half will feature the major work American DREAMers by Melissa Dunphy, based on text by young immigrants, as well as several odes to our nation’s heritage including Hymn for America by Stephen Paulus.
