Description
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.” The welcoming poem at the Statue of Liberty stands in stark contrast to today’s immigration policies. Refugees have been rendered voiceless. LGBTGQ+ Muslims are targets of hate and violence and have been virtually silenced. This powerful 75-minute original oratorio is based on the personal accounts of asylum seekers and is set to music by composers whose musical vocabularies are informed by cultural tradition. Compelling video interviews are woven throughout.
