The centerpiece of the program is English Renaissance composer John Sheppard’s Media vita (In the midst of life), written during London’s most deadly influenza epidemic, which likely took the life of Sheppard himself. Accompanying this 20-minute masterpiece are music by Arvo Pärt, Eric Whitacre’s setting of When David Heard, and John Tavener’s Song for Athene.
