Illuminations: Holiday Music from the Americas
Description
Illuminations: Holiday Music from the Americas showcases composers, texts, or melodies with ties to the Americas. Each piece is selected by our Artistic Director, Kyle Haugen, to provide tidings of comfort, hope, and inspiration this season. Highlights include Canadian composer Sarah Quartel’s stunning treatment of a medieval English carol, This Endris Night; composer Roland Carter’s masterful settings of Mary Had a Baby and Go, Tell It on the Mountain; and the beloved A la Nanita Nana and ¡Fum, Fum, Fum! from Conrad Susa’s acclaimed collection of Hispanic carols. We are delighted to introduce you to local author Paul Hoffman’s poignant Night of Wonder set to music by Karen Black, and our concert’s theme finds special meaning in I Will Light Candles this Christmas, with poetry by American civil rights leader Howard Thurman and music by Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen.
