“Behold, the sea itself!” opening line of Vaughan Williams’ epic Symphony No. 1, with Walt Whitman's text Leaves of Grass. In the first half, we take a musical peek at the other nations that comprise the British Isles, starting with four charming Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold. Wales, a country famous for its choirs, is represented by two classics: “All through the Night” and “The Bells of Rhymney.” And what could be more Irish than “Londonderry Air” (“O Danny Boy”) heard in Irish Rhapsody #1
