Behold the Starswith special guest DUNAVA Balkan women's choir
Description
All Christmas traditions begin with the Star of Bethlehem and the journey of the 3 Magi. This year, the wonder of that Star and the entire starry firmament are made more awe-inspiring by the images from the James Webb Space Telescope. From earliest times, we humans have gazed upward, seeing mythic beasts and Gods in the stars. Now, seeing images dating back nearly 13 billion years, we singers are newly inspired to behold not just the Star of Bethlehem but all the stars in the universe. We will be singing works by Gospel director Kent Stevenson, William Dawson and Randall Thompson which paint the starry skies with diverse musical styles. In addition, we will present Fred West’s Balkan inspired Christmas Cantata — described by music critics as “imaginative and spirit-filled” — scored for chorus, timpani and strings. We are privileged to be joined by the incomparable DUNAVA Women’s Choir, led by Dina Trageser. Dunava performs the intricate harmonies of traditional Eastern European folk songs with passion and authenticity. Please join us this holiday season as we bring you a message of hope through our songs evoking the eternity of the firmament.
