Here we present works written for specific occasions: a cantata for the 1734 wedding of Johann Adolf II of Saxe-Weissenfels to his second wife composed by our namesake, J. S. Bach; and—in what is likely its first, complete performance in the U.S.—funeral music for the 1751 death of the King Frederick I of Sweden, composed by the “Swedish Handel,” Johan Helmich Roman.
