42nd ANNUAL KALEVALA FESTIVALCelebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Finnish Composer Oskar Merikanto
The Finnish Composer Oskar Merikanto's (1868 - 1924), style reminds of Finnish folk songs. He had a unique ability to compose vividly emotional music and has become one of the most beloved Finnish composers. Program: Choir, conducted by Heather MacLaughlin-Garbes, solo singing by soprano Maria Männistö acc. Aaron Otheim, the Evergreen Kantele, Kalevala Trio and Katrilli folkdancers. Guest speaker Hanna-Ilona Härmävaara of UW Finnish Studies.
