This holiday season, the Seattle Choral Company, directed by Freddie Coleman, returns to Saint Mark’s Cathedral for their 11th annual Cathedral Christmas concert tradition, which this year is titled December Dreams. Once again this year, listeners will flock to Saint Mark’s Cathedral to take a break from holiday stress and activity and hear a reflective program of choral beauty. Concert at 8:00pm. Preview talk at 7:00pm. Carol sing-along with the Flentrop organ at 7:30pm.

These holiday concerts showcase the 90-member combined chorus of the Northwest Boychoir and Vocalpoint! Seattle.

Patterned after the Christmas Eve observance at King’s College in Cambridge, England, A Festival of Lessons & Carols is a holiday tradition for thousands of families in the Puget Sound region. This classical performance consists of nine holiday readings, each followed by a traditional carol performed by the choir, and another carol sung by the choir and audience.

The explosive joy that washed across Europe on Christmas is summed up in this one exclamation. “Hodie”--or “Today”--is the word that begins many of the sacred texts sung on that day: Today Christ is born! Today the Savior appeared! Today on earth the angels sing! After weeks of waiting through the penitential season, the faithful then celebrated with 12 days of dancing, processions, and feasts. The Medieval Women’s Choir unleashes its joy of the season from cathedral, court, and countryside.

2018 marks the 100 th anniversary of the end of WWI, the “war to end all wars.” Our concert is inspired by the
Christmas truce in 1914 during which roughly 100,000 English, French, and German troops ceased hostilities to
offer holiday greetings, mingle, and even exchange gifts. We celebrate this spirit of peace with carols and
holiday music from England, France, and Germany.

Pre concert lectures will be at 2:00pm and 6:30pm.
